BLACKBERRY MOUNTAIN BUNKHOUSE
A compact bunkhouse at Blackberry Mountain was designed to seamlessly support both work and retreat within a modest 525-square-foot footprint. Having previously collaborated with the clients, Norris Studio brought an intuitive understanding of the site and lifestyle to the project, creating a structure that functions as a quiet daytime workspace and a guesthouse with built-in bunks for the family’s four sons and visiting friends. Conceived as a detached pavilion tucked alongside a sculptural stone wall, the bunkhouse blends into the surrounding landscape through floor-to-ceiling windows and a restrained architectural presence. A warm, lived-in material palette - stone flooring, vintage Delft tiles, and British-sourced furnishings—introduces a subtle cottage sensibility while maintaining a clean, contemporary feel. Thoughtful millwork, layered lighting, and select personal pieces lend durability and character, resulting in a retreat that feels both practical and deeply connected to its mountain setting.
